Music Greek Life
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia
“The Object of this Fraternity shall be for the development of the best and truest fraternal spirit; the mutual welfare and brotherhood of musical students; the advancement of music in America and a loyalty to the Alma Mater.”
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia is the world’s oldest and largest secret national fraternal society in music. For over a century, Sinfonians in nearly every field of study and professional endeavor have transformed music in America. Sinfonian invites as many men as possible who, through a love for music, can assist in the fulfillment of the Fraternity’s Object and ideals either by adopting music as a profession, or by working to advance the cause of music in America.
The Sigma Alpha Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, chartered at UMass Amherst on March 7, 2010, works to develop brotherhood through music, and champion the power of music by bringing it to others. This is exemplified in our Mills Music Mission, where we bring music to those who may not experience it often, and in our Chapter and American Music Recitals, which provide not only an opportunity for us but for others in the community to perform and share their love and passion for music.
Sigma Alpha Iota
Sigma Alpha Iota promotes interaction among those who share a commitment to music. Members of SAI are active in all areas of campus music and campus life, working closely with faculty, administration, campus and community groups, music professionals and patrons. In addition to personal encouragement and support, members may receive scholarships, loans and awards in many areas and at all levels of music-related study. Sigma Alpha Iota has long been recognized as a leader in the field of music and provides a lifetime of fraternity contact.

The UMass student chapter includes undergraduate and graduate students who share a passion for the choral arts. Each semester, we host a variety of events including lectures by guests, music reading sessions, and conducting masterclasses. On the final day of classes each fall semester, ACDA hosts the annual Midnight Messiah Sing-Along. The event is held in Bezanson Recital Hall and features student performers.
Music Making
Pioneer Valley Trumpet Guild
The Pioneer Valley Trumpet Guild is a performance and outreach based organization. We aim to create a positive, musical relationship with the entire Pioneer Valley and believe that the best way to do that is through public exposure. Each semester, members of the Guild perform in a variety of settings from Veterans homes to our annual Holiday Caroling where small groups of musicians hold impromptu performances of seasonal songs in public venues. It is the core belief of the PVTG that it is our responsibility as ambassadors of art music to bring our craft into the public forum and form lasting relationships within the community.
Songwriting and Production Club
This club aims to encourage collaboration between songwriters and producers and engage students in different types of workshops. Membership is open to anyone who has experience and/or shows interest in Songwriting and Production. Meetings are held regularly in the Digital Media Lab of the W.E.B. DuBois Library.
