Two music education graduate students, Jessica Wiseman (Ph.D. in Music Education) and Emma Rose (Master of Music in Music Education), presented their research at the National Association for Music Education’s Symposium on Music Teacher Education at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City on October 12-14, 2023.

Selection for presentation is based on a highly-selective double-blind peer-reviewed process, according to music education professor Daniel Albert. “It's a big deal for music education faculty to be selected to present their research at this event, and it's an especially big deal for a graduate student,” said Albert. “Emma and Jessica represented UMass Amherst extremely well and we are so proud of them and their work.”

The theme of this year’s symposium was “Elevating a Culture of Belonging,” with a focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and justice. Emma’s presentation was entitled, "Centering Community Voices: Illuminating a Path Toward Increased Equity in Music Education," while Jessica’s was entitled "Music and the Refugee: What Educators Should Know."
