Consisting of 4 violinists, 2 violists and 2 cellists to form two graduate string quartets, Teaching Assistantships offered through this program offer a variety of outstanding benefits:
- Full waiver of graduate tuition costs
- Generous stipend
- Medical insurance coverage
- One concert per semester in Bezanson Recital Hall, plus satellite concerts around the region
- Coachings with the string faculty plus visiting artists masterclasses
- Includes involvement with (and/or placement in) Opus One conductor-less Chamber Orchestra and UMass Amherst Symphony Orchestra
Teaching assistantships include 10 hours per week of service to the Department, of which five are devoted to the String Quartet and five to another area, to be determined at a later date.
DEADLINE: To maximize the possibility being awarded a Teaching Assistantship, all graduate students should have their Graduate Application and Music Application filed by December 1st. Auditions may take place after this date. There is no separate sign-up process for String Quartet TA consideration outside of the audition and interview.
