2:15pm - Kendra Wheeler Lecture on Music & Identity
3:15pm - Jazz Clinic with John Ellis

5:00pm - Concert by the Community Sax Ensemble, the UMass Sax Ensemble & the New England Saxophone Collective
6:00pm – Jazz Recital featuring John Ellis & the UMass Jazz Faculty Combo

Here's more information about the 5pm concert:

The New England Saxophone Collective is a group of professional saxophonists who gather to play and promote the saxophone and its ensemble repertoire. Started by Carrie Koffman of The Hartt School and Jonathan Hulting-Cohen of UMass Amherst, the ensemble features some of the top classical players in the region:

Carrie Koffman, tenor saxophone
Amy McGlothlin, tenor saxophone

Also on the 5pm concert: a jazz duo; the UMass Saxophone Ensemble plays a world premiere, Immortality, by Ian Sauco, and the Community Sax Ensemble plays LJ White’s You Are.

Competition Information and Timeline

Register Here for All Competitions

  • First round application due January 15, 2025
  • Notification of advancement to the finals, February 1, 2025
  • Finals take place at the Symposium, March 1, 2025

Prizes include $300 gift cards to our local vendor, Gerry's Music Shop
