For Music & Dance Faculty:

If the university closes due to weather or other circumstance, all department events and recitals are also cancelled.

You can check whether campus is closed at www.umass.edu/closing, by phone (413- 545-3630), or on Twitter (@UMassAmherst). To receive important campus-wide alerts, including closings, we recommend that you sign up for the university’s Emergency Alert system: Login to SPIRE with your Net ID and password; from the SPIRE Main Menu, click UMass Amherst Alerts > Sign Up for Alerts and select how you would like to be notified.

Notice of cancellations of Music & Dance department events will be posted on Events, Facebook, and our event information phone line (413-545-2227, Option 2). Notice of any cancellation will also be communicated directly to all faculty and staff by email.

Student Recital Cancellation Policy

For Faculty/Guest Artist Performances and Ensemble Concerts

After receiving an email notice of a cancellation, the faculty coordinator of that event is responsible for communicating directly with all students and performers impacted by the cancellation.

If an event that you are helping to coordinate is in danger of cancellation due to reasons other than campus closure (sickness, etc.), contact the Marketing & Publicity Office (Publicity Director & Assistant) and Facilities Coordinator as far in advance as possible, so that the Chair can give final approval and alternate dates can be discussed.

Publicity Director: TBD
Assistant, Eric Roth: 413-577-2154 (cell 413-570-5302)
Facilities Coordinator (Nicole Avakian 413-545-0311 or Abby Clark 413-545-6065)

In some rare instances, the Chair may decide to postpone or cancel an event if the campus remains open, or seek approval to proceed with a performance even if campus is closed. In those rare cases, all faculty and faculty and staff will be notified following the protocol listed above.
