Most foundational courses for music majors are sequential, beginning in fall semester only. Beginning music major courses in the spring semester is generally not possible or beneficial to a student's overall academic progress. Music requirements are also specific to a major's degree path and abilities, so it is not possible to suggest preparatory courses or other "ways to get ahead" for the potential music major prior to admission.
That being said, below are academic music classes and performance options available to non-majors.
Academic Classes:
MUSIC 100 Music Appreciation (AT)—offered fall and spring, does not satisfy music major or minor requirements
MUSIC 101 Intro to Music Literature (AT)—offered fall and spring, satisfies requirement for all music minors and majors (except BMus JAAMS)
MUSIC 102 Afro-American Music (AT, DU)—offered spring, satisfies requirement for all music majors and minors
MUSIC 106 World Music (AT, DG) (formerly MUSIC 290J)—TBD, satisfies requirement for all music majors and minors
