Undergraduate

Bachelor of Music in Composition

The BM Composition is primarily concerned with theoretical foundations and analysis, and composition techniques of Western classical music. This degree prepares students for graduate work in composition.

Graduate

Master of Music in Music Composition

The MM Composition is intended for musicians who desire to pursue graduate study in the field of composition in order to continue the development of their creative skills and prepare for a career as a professional composer either in the public sector or in college/university settings.

MM Composition Requirements

The MM Jazz Composition & Arranging and Graduate Certificate in Jazz Composition & Arranging are also available through Jazz & African American Music Studies.

Salvatore Macchia.
Professor Macchia has performed in the European and jazz traditions throughout America and Europe, and has been the contrabass soloist with the Berkshire Choral Festival Orchestra, Dinosaur Annex under Gunther Schuller, Springfield (MA) Symphony Orchestra (where he serves as principal bass), Jazz Composer's Orchestra and at the Boston Festival of Quarter Tone Music. He has premiered nearly 100 compositions featuring the doublebass.
