Thomas Bergeron

As a trumpeter, educator, conductor, composer, producer and arts leader, Thomas Bergeron is committed to bringing people from all walks of life together through music.  

Thomas is currently Principal Trumpet with the Springfield Symphony, where he also guest conducts. Thomas has appeared on dozens of classical and jazz albums and produced three records of original music with his hybrid jazz chamber ensemble. He is a former member of Carnegie Hall's resident Ensemble Connect and the Atlantic Brass Quintet, which premiered and recorded many of his arrangements. His compositions have received premieres at venues throughout the Northeast, including Carnegie Hall and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Thomas has performed with numerous GRAMMY-winning artists, including T-Pain, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Vampire Weekend, Idina Menzel, The Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Ernie Watts, Judy Collins, Trisha Yearwood, Deep Purple, and Arlo Guthrie. He has also performed with The American Symphony and the Radio City Orchestra, and on numerous Broadway shows in New York. His network television appearances include Saturday Night Live, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and CBS This Morning. Thomas has premiered hundreds of works by award-winning composers, including Du Yun, Andy Akiho, Missy Mazzoli, Quinn Mason, Eric Nathan, Samuel Carl Adams, Aaron Jay Kernis, Christopher Theofanidis, Gabriel Kahane, Jeff Scott, Lukas Ligeti, and many more. 

Thomas has held teaching positions at Williams College, Tufts University, Bennington College, Yale, Amherst College, and Smith College. He was the Director of Music at Deerfield Academy for nine years, where he held the J. Clement Schuler Distinguished Chair. He directed the Deerfield Orchestra, the nationally recognized chamber music program, and a pop/hip-hop band; taught classes in music production and composition; produced the guest artist and Cultural Exchange Through Music programs and music community service projects; and oversaw the 32-member music faculty team. Through his work with Musicambia, he taught music to the inmates at Sing Sing Correctional Facility and is currently producing a record of their compositions with Decoda. He has also worked as an educational consultant for The Harmony Program in New York City and was an inclusive learning teaching artist with VSA Massachusetts. 

He holds two advanced music degrees from Yale, where he won the Woolsey Hall Concerto Competition and received the John Swallow Award for excellence in brass playing. He also holds a Business Management degree from the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst, where he graduated with honors.

Thomas is a Conn-Selmer endorsement artist and performs exclusively on Conn-Selmer brass instruments.
