Your Path to Success
For undergraduate students, we offer both a microbiology major and a microbiology minor, as well as a departmental honors track for students in the Commonwealth Honors College (CHC). Our fifth-year master’s program allows academically strong students to swiftly earn a graduate degree, enhancing their academic background and getting a head start in the complex workforce. Note, our requirements meet medical school pre-requisites.
Microbiology B.S. Curriculum
Credit Requirement: 35 credits
Required Course Credits: 21 (~7 courses)
Elective Course Credits: 14 credits (~5 courses)

(Note: can consider a statistics course as well here, BUT focusing on
performance in Math is important. A strong foundation in math helps create

Microbiology Minor
Our Microbiology minor is a great way to customize your academic experience by enhancing your major or focusing on a second field of study. Paired with majors such as BMB, Environmental Science, and Food Science, the Microbiology minor can expand your understanding and experience around a specific subject and significantly strengthen your breadth of knowledge, benefiting you along your career path.
Departmental Honors
Students of the Commonwealth Honors College (CHC) are welcome to apply for our competitive curriculum track, designed to challenge you to find connections between theory and practice, making a difference in the world through personal achievement and active engagement in society. Our curriculum track culminates in a thesis project centering around an original investigation or topic of your choice.
