Our mission

University Health Services' mission is to provide comprehensive medical and mental health care to a diverse population of UMass Amherst constituents and promote campus health in the broadest sense.

We commit to the holistic integration of a multitude of campus services promoting health in educational and residential environments. 

We emphasize students first, and strive for excellence, sustainability and efficiency. The Mount Ida Campus Clinic is located in Appleton House (Building 21), located behind the Veterinary Technology Building. Services available include the following:

  • Wellness Services (physicals, TB testing)
  • Diagnosis and treatment of common illnesses and injuries (UTI, sore throat, sprained ankle, mono, etc.)
  • Immunizations; flu vaccines, tetanus, HPV (Gardasil), rabies and travel vaccines
  • Case management and coordination of specialist care in the community
  • Men’s health exams and STI testing
  • Women’s health exams, birth control, emergency contraception, STI testing
  • Sexual assault counseling and support
  • Mental health counseling
  • Group therapy
  • Off-campus referrals for specialized/intensive care and medication management
  • Resources for quitting smoking
  • Health and wellness education for students through programming on campus

Important information

Students experiencing a life-threatening medical or mental health emergency should call 911 immediately.

When school is in session:

  • Clinic Hours: Monday thru Friday 8am-4pm.

  • 24 Hour Mental Health Support Line: Call 617-243-1381, press 1 to reach a counselor.
  • After Hours Medical Support: Call 617-243-1381, press 4 to reach an advice nurse

If you have experienced a sexual assault and would like to be seen by a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) go directly to Newton Wellesley Hospital Emergency Room. If you would like to speak with a Nurse Practitioner or Counselor in our office please call 617-243-1381.
