The research interests of the analysis faculty at Umass Amherst include a variety of fields in pure analysis such as Fourier analysis, dispersive PDEs, and hyperbolic conservation laws. The analysis faculty also investigate numerous applications of analysis to systems of physical origin, for example Schrödinger and wave equations, traveling waves, breathers, solitons and other nonlinear phenomena, ergodic theory for finite and infinite dimensional Hamiltonian systems, fluid mechanics and kinetic equations in statistical mechanics.
The Analysis and PDE seminar meets every week and covers a wide range of topics in analysis and PDEs. The Applied math and Computation seminar sometimes covers related topics as well.
