Yizhao Wang (UMass). Moduli of Calabi--Yau 3-folds and mirror symmetry: Examples

We will describe several examples to support the conjecture that the Baily-Borel compactification of moduli of polarized Calabi-Yau 3-folds due to Bakker-Filipazzi-Mauri-Tsimerman coincides with the conjectural compactification of Morrison based on mirror symmetry in a neighborhood of a large complex structure limit point. This conjecture yields in particular a description of the boundary strata in terms of the birational geometry of the mirror manifold. The examples are drawn from the work of Candelas, de la Ossa, Font, Katz, and Morrison ref1 ref2, and Hosono and Takagi ref3 .
