The Thurston’s Compactification of Teichmüller space (Unusual time!)

This week we will discuss Thurston’s Compactification of Teichmüller space. Using the fact that Techmüller Space and Whitehead classes of measured foliations embed into the space of functionals, we will find a compactification of the Teichmüller space. Using the previous results, we will see that if our surface is closed and of genus g ≥ 2, this compact space is homeomorphic to D^(6g-6).
