In this talk, students with little to no knowledge of category theory will be gently introduced to the concepts of ‘category’ and ‘functor’. Using an illustrative example, and lots of pictures, we will give an example of a functor, and will hint at some of the exciting applications of the concept of functoriality as a way to connect ideas from algebra, topology, and mathematical physics.
