Reading Seminar in Geometry and Topology
LGRT 1685

We’ll review results and techniques that are building blocks for studying hyperbolic surfaces. This will begin with a classification of the Teichmuller space for a pair of pants. Then we’ll discuss the geometric intersection number of simple closed curves on closed hyperbolic surfaces. We’ll end by applying these intersection properties to study the abundance of isometries for a fixed -1-curvature metric on a closed surface.
