Ben Heidenreich (UMass Physics): What is String Theory

I introduce the basic notions of perturbative (super)string theories and their connection to two-dimensional (super)conformal field theories. Along the way, I will explain some basic concepts in (two-dimensional) quantum field theory. The talk will be highly pictorial, with reference to some complex analysis and quantum mechanics.
