Breather solutions are spatially localized, temporally periodic solutions of partial differential equations and lattice systems. They are extremely rare for partial differential equations with constant coefficients but are known to exist in some PDEs with inhomogeneous coefficients. In this talk I’ll describe a new approach to the construction of breathers for special classes of PDEs with spatially periodic coefficients, based on the implicit function theorem.
