Dr. Jeungok Choi seeks ways to improve healthcare communication for people with low literacy skills.  Her research has determined that appropriate pictographs (simple line drawings) alongside simplified text can improve cognitive learning processes and enhance engagement in deeper understanding.  In particular, tablet and web-based pictograph images and text have proven effective for low literacy older adults with hip replacement surgery.
