The EMCNEI promotes interdisciplinary research based on collaboration between nurses, engineers, and others to design efficient products and processes in response to real-world healthcare challenges. Research projects are wide-ranging and include (but are not limited to) medical devices, robotics, racism in healthcare, hypertension treatment in underserved communities, and statistical analysis of decision-making in healthcare.

A full-time (9-month), tenure-track faculty position that will be jointly appointed with the Elaine Marieb College of Nursing and the College of Engineering offers the unique opportunity to join a strong team of collaborators between these colleges in the Elaine Marieb Center for Nursing and Engineering Innovation as well as part of the larger University-wide Institute for Applied Life Sciences (IALS) and its Center for Personalized Health Monitoring (CPHM). The selected candidate for this position is expected to be appointed to a Hluchyj-Marieb named term professorship, which is anticipated to transition to a fully endowed professorship in the near future. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to take a leadership role in large, collaborative, sponsored research projects.
This program supports integrated project teaming between faculty in the Colleges of Nursing and Engineering to foster innovative ideas and partnerships to help teams jump start translational research, engage in joint scholarship, and obtain external funding. UMass Amherst faculty in the Colleges of Nursing or Engineering are eligible.
One $25,000 grant for a team that includes nursing and engineering faculty and students co-funded by Institute for Divserity Sciences (IDS) and the Elaine Marieb Center for Nursing and Engineering Innovation. The co-funded research grant will go to teams of faculty and students working together across disciplines, including the social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences, engineering, computer sciences, and humanities on research topics that have an equity focus.
