Round Table Symposium

Round Table Symposium

At the 2023 Round Table Symposium, representatives from each of the Center’s pilot projects gathered to discuss their research in a round table discussion format. Researchers funded by Center Pilot Grants respond to real-world healthcare challenges using the Nurse-Engineer approach, an interdisciplinary research method in which nurses, engineers, and others work together to investigate, design, and adapt healthcare products and processes to make them more effective and equitable.

"The Round Table Symposium provided a valuable in-person experience to learn about innovative, inclusive, and collaborative projects taking place between nurses and engineers", Ben Monat, Associate Director of Donor Relations at the Elaine Marieb College of Nursing

Since its 2021 inception, the Center has funded seven Pilot Project teams that have successfully addressed a wide range of topics, such as osteoarthritis in Chinese older adults, hypertension in the predominantly Black and Hispanic Springfield, MA community, and home healthcare in which vital signs are remotely monitored via a cloud-based and scalable platform.

The partnership between nurses and engineers provides several perspectives and the round table format was enjoyed by all; researchers and attendees alike found the back-and-forth discussion exciting.
