About RHA
What is RHA?
The Residence Hall Association exists to represent the residents of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, protect the rights of residents, and to provide a voice for the interests’ of students. We strive to achieve this by assisting house councils with funding, legislation, and publicity. Through these initiatives, the Residence Hall Association is committed to continuously improving the experience on-campus at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
The Residence Hall Association represents all students living within the residence halls to the Student Government Association and Residential Life. At such a large university, it is often difficult to feel part of a community. However, RHA has made it its responsibility to build those connections. This organization makes an effort to support all the residents of UMass Amherst. It provides various leadership development opportunities through executive board positions, and attending regional and national leadership conferences.
Founded in 2003 (then the Residential Leadership Association), RHA strives to make a positive impact on this campus. RHA prides itself in attracting talented individuals who want to make a difference. These students perpetuate the idea that the Residence Hall Association is: Building Leaders With Pride!

RHA General Body
The General Body is the heart and soul of RHA. It is the dedication of our members that determines the success of our organization.
Who makes up the General Body?
The General Body is comprised of residents from all 31 clusters across campus. Each cluster sends their House Council Vice President to represent the needs of their residents. Some clusters have more than one vote, and will send additional voting representatives in addition to their Vice President. Only House Councils in good standing can request funding and have voting rights.
What does the General Body do at meetings?
Every Tuesday there are general body meetings. These meetings are used to gather feedback about processes happening on campus, vote on funding requests, advocate for student needs, and get information about a variety of things that are happening around campus and impact residential students. Several meetings a year will focus on the development of leadership skills in the General Body. Speakers and activities are a large part of helping us to become stronger leaders and represent our clusters in the best possible way.
I'm not in a House Council but I'm interested in RHA, can I still come to meetings?
Of course! RHA wants motivated students who have a genuine desire to grow in this community. Although you will be unable to request funding, you can still represent your cluster by remaining active in discussions as well as participating in committees.
I don't have a lot of time, is RHA a big commitment?
RHA meets every Tuesday from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. and are generally held at the Campus Center. This organization can help you achieve your potential. You will get out what you put into it.
