The campus is open on Monday, January 21 and move-in is proceeding as scheduled. Please dress for extreme cold, travel safely, and know that we can accommodate weather related late arrivals.
Classes are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, January 22.
Residence Hall Opening Change
Friday, January 18
Early arrival move-in: 9 a.m. – 10 p.m. ($120 early arrival fee)
Saturday January 19
University residence halls will open for check-ins beginning at 9 a.m. through 10 p.m. Saturday, January 19. All residential students are eligible to arrive. There will not be an early arrival fee and meal plans will start on Saturday. We strongly urge students with new room assignments and those completing room changes to arrive on Saturday. Move-in bins and staff assistance will be available. Find more information on Spring 2019 move-in here.
Sunday, January 20
Residence Hall Desks are staffed from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Because of hazardous weather conditions, we will not have move-in assistance available.Although the university is closed due to the storm, residents can still enter their assigned halls. However, we discourage students and families to rely on this day to move belongings.
Monday, January 21
University residence halls will open for check-ins beginning at 9 a.m. through 10 p.m. Monday, January 21.

Weather permitting, traffic pattern changes will be in effect on Sunday, January 20 between 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. in the CHCRC and Southwest Residential Areas.
- Hick’s Way will be one way only with entry available from Commonwealth Avenue.
- Fearing Street will be one way only with entry available from University Drive. Residence Halls that will need to use Fearing Street to gain access to their halls are: Cance, Coolidge, Crampton, Prince, Patterson, MacKimmie, Washington, John Quincy Adams, John Adams. Please note: access to the Southwest concourse may close prior to 7 p.m. depending on the rate of traffic.
- Sunset Avenue will be one way only between Fearing Street and Massachusetts Avenue with access from Fearing Street only.
Students who are interested in moving in on Friday, January 18 can contact Residential Life Student Services at email@example.com or 413-545-2100 Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to request Early Arrival. Students who move in before Saturday will be charged a $120 fee which will be applied to your spring bill after halls have opened.
If you are attending New Student Orientation on Friday, January 18, please plan to pick up your key and move your belongings into your room after NSO has completed, around 4 p.m.
A free shuttle runs between the Haigis Mall bus stop and residential areas between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday and Monday. Times are coordinated with the Peter Pan bus schedule.
Students who are unable to arrive by 10 p.m. on Monday, January 21 should contact Residential Life Student Services at 413-545-2100 to request late arrival status. If you cannot make it to campus by 11 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22, be sure to contact us to avoid being reported as a no show and subject to cancelation of room assignment.
