About the Community
Brooks Hall houses both first year and multi-year communities.

The first two floors of Brooks are part of the Residential First-Year Experience (RFYE). RFYE halls are designed as living-learning communities where first-year students can engage with their peers around common interests and pursuits. First-year halls offer intentional staffing and support to assist students in their transition to the University.  For information about Residential Academic Programs available in Brooks, visit the RAP website.

The top two floors are multi- year communities. Multi-year communities are designed to provide sophomores, juniors and seniors with enriching experiences, autonomy and self-discovery, continued learning and connections with a diverse group of UMass Amherst students.

Brooks is also an alcohol free residence hall and home to a 24-hour quiet floor. Students and their guests may not possess or consume alcoholic beverages in this residence hall. The commitment of all residents to maintain an alcohol-free environment forms the basis of a respectful and encouraging community. Brooks is barrier-free and accessible for disabled students.
