Every student that selects a housing assignment and later cancels is subject to the cancellation fee schedule. If a student cancels after the start of the semester they are also subject to the rent refund schedule.
Students must call (413) 545-2100 or visit Residential Life Student Services at 235 Whitmore to request a cancellation of their assignment. Students can also email firstname.lastname@example.org from the campus email address to request a cancellation. Students must include their full name, student ID number, assignment that they are cancelling and the reason that they are cancelling their assignment. Students are encouraged to use the template below. Only the student may cancel their assignment and the request must be made directly with the Student Services Office.
"My name is _____ and my student ID number is ______. I am emailing to cancel my <Hall and Room Number> assignment for <Semester and Year>. I am cancelling because <Reason for Cancellation>. I acknowledge that I will be subject to the cancellation fee as of today's date."
Your residence hall assignment and contract is for the full academic year. Students are encouraged to not select an assignment unless they are certain they will live on campus. Students who select an assignment and later cancel that assignment will be subject to a minimum $100 Cancellation Fee. The fall 2019 cancellation fee schedule is available below.

Students who cancel their housing assignment or withdraw from the university during the first five weeks of the semester are eligible for a rent refund. The refund is issued based on the date the student checks out of the residence hall room. Students who cancel or withdraw during the first five weeks are also subject to the cancellation fee schedule, which is also prorated to the corresponding week the cancellation is made.
In order for the refund to be issued, the student must complete a full check out by removing all belongings from the space, turning in the key to the Residential Service Desk, and calling Student Services to request a cancellation. Below is the rent refund schedule for a standard, non-break housing shared room for spring 2019.
