First Steps for All New Students

1. Follow the instructions to submit your UCard photo.

2. Sign the Residence Hall Occupancy License on SPIRE under Housing > Room Selection > Occupancy License.

All students must sign the Residence Hall Occupancy License before applying for housing and living in a residence hall. This is a yearly license, legally binding enforceable agreement, which will remain in force for the duration of residency and includes financial responsibility for the entire contract period. You can read and sign the license online on SPIRE.

3. Submit the Housing Profile on SPIRE.

4. Confirm your Emergency Contact Information  on SPIRE.

5. Complete the Preference Application between Friday November 4, 2022 through 11:59pm on Monday January 9, 2023 with the instructions to apply for a Residential Program or rank order Residential Areas below.

Assignments will be released on SPIRE under Assignment Notification on Friday, January 13, 2023.

Applying for a Residential Program 

Defined Residential Communities

  1. Follow the steps for submitting the housing preference application below.
  2. List the residential area and living option for the program you want to participate in as your first preference on your preference application.

Applying for a Residential Area

1. When you access SPIRE and the Housing Preference Application you will be able to rank, in your preference order, the areas of campus. In addition, you can select a Defined Residential Community or Special Housing Option.

2. You are required to preference at least four Residential Areas (Central, CHCRC, North Apartments, Northeast, Orchard Hill, Southwest, Sylvan).

*If you are interested in a single room, you will have the opportunity to indicate it on your Preference Application. Please note the additional cost of residing in a single room.

3. If you have a roommate request, you must:

  • List your residential area preferences in the same order and,
  • List each other as roommates on your individual preference applications.

Canceling Your Application

If you decide not to live on campus, contact Residential Life Student Services at 413-545-2100 to cancel your housing application/assignment immediately. Depending on when you cancel, you may be subject to a cancellation fee
