Residential Life employs staff members from five different unions, as well as non-bargaining unit employees.
AFSCME (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees) Local 1776 [Units A and B]
AFSCME is the bargaining unit for members of our skilled trades, grounds, custodial, housing, food services, and security fields.
Unit A Contract – Applies to all benefited 01 employees.
Unit B Contract – Most CC/03 employees in Auxiliary Services, Physical Plant, Residential Life, and Parking Services who work at least 10 hours per week and have worked at least 6 work weeks in a calendar year.
Common Residential Life positions include: Maintainer I, Maintainer II, Maintenance Technician II, Trades Worker, Controls & Refrigeration System Specialist, Storekeeper II, Departmental Assistant.
GEO (Graduate Employee Organization)
GEO is the collective bargaining unit for graduate student employees.
Common Residential Life positions include: Assistant Resident Director, Learning Communities Graduate Assistant, Engagement Graduate Assistant, Community Standards Graduate Assistant, Apartment Communities Graduate Assistant.

PSU/MTA (Professional Staff Union/Massachusetts Teachers Association) [Units A and B]
The Professional Staff Union of the University of Massachusetts is a labor union local of professional staff and classified supervisors.
Common Residential Life positions include: Operations Manager, Residence Director, Learning Communities Specialist, Institution Maintenance Foreman, Supervisor of Janitors.
RAU/UAW (Resident Assistants United/United Auto Workers) Local 2322
RAU/UAW is the collective bargaining unit for Resident Assistants and Peer Mentors.

USA/MTA (University Staff Association Affiliate of the Massachusetts Teachers Association)
The USA/MTA bargaining unit consists of all full-time and regular part-time (at least 50% time) administrative, clerical, and technical employees of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. These employees are non-exempt.
Common Residential Life positions include: Clerk III, Clerk IV, Clerk V, Accountant I, Housing Operations Assistant, Technical Assistant II, Technical Assistant III, Technical Specialist I, Electronics Technician I, EDP Systems Analyst I, EDP Programmer II.
