John McCarthy is Distinguished University Professor and Provost Emeritus. He served as Provost & Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for five years, from 2017 to 2022. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1992, was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2005, and was elected a Fellow of the Linguistic Society of America (2011), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (2015), and the Cognitive Science Society (2016).
