Locality and Logicality

Uli Sauerland

Most work has conceived of logical binding and the locality of dependencies as autonomous phenomena (Ross 1967 and others). I propose a novel approach to binding based on "ghost variables". I then argue that in combination with logicality assumptions, this conception entails restrictions on dependencies that resemble the established syntactic conditions, specifically relativized minimality (Rizzi 1990).
