I work on paleo-ecological (Pleistocene/Holocene) reconstructions of drought, fire, and hurricanes as well as use pollen analysis to reconstruct vegetation. I also conduct field work using sediment coring in coastal environments mostly from New England south to Central America. My work over the past 25 years has ranged from applied ecology in Michigan's Department of Natural Resources and New York's Department of Fish and Wildlife, to research in forest ecology and paleo-ecology while working at the University of Michigan, Harvard Forest, The Nature Conservancy, Brown University, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and the University of Massachusetts - Amherst.
