This May, the Boston Society of Landscape Architects have announced their 2023 Design Awards. A number of our graduate students, our alumni, and friends of the department have recieved awards for their student/professional work. To highlight some of our department's award winners, we have the following: 

 

Student MERIT Award - Creating Community Vision for Indian Orchard

Jury Notes: "The jury felt it was refreshing to see a project that centers on community engagement, getting the community involved in real solutions. The before and after photos were very compelling. Demonstrated great examples of working with people and engaging the community, like the creation of the mosaic bench".

 

Student HONOR Award - Discovery Forest

Jury Notes: "The jury liked the fresh ideas used to connect the users and nature with innovative, fun, immersive yet detailed focus design solutions. The representations are very clear to challenge the traditional play equipment."

 

Professional Award: JURY Special Recognition: Comprehensive Community Impact - China Trail Garden at the Acton Arboretum (Acton, MA)

LANDD International LLC - Lead Designer Hongbing Tang, ASLA, PLA (PhD, Lecturer)

Jury Notes: The Jury felt this was a compelling and inspiring passion project. Comprehensive and diverse community engagement and activation story is strong. The landscape story is small, but focused, incorporating a unique combination of plants. The potential for perennial stewardship is inspiring and outstanding. Small budget, but has big cultural and community significance.
