In his new book “Design with Nature on Cape Cod and the Islands,” Jack Ahern, professor emeritus of landscape architecture, scopes sustainable design practices based on the region's community of native plants. Ahern discusses the natural history of Cape Cod, defines the landscape character its native plants uphold, and describes what goes into designing to combat natural ailments such as climate change and soil erosion.
This book is published by University of Massachusetts Press and was made available on April 15th, 2022. This book contains not only strategies for ecological planting design, but a plethora of images of real-world examples of ecologically designed landscapes found in Cape Cod.
