Cristiano Mazzei
Cristiano Mazzei (B.A. Unibero University; M.A. University of Massachusetts Amherst) is Director of Online Translator and Interpreter Training and Senior Lecture in Comparative Literature at UMass Amherst. Before pursuing his graduate studies in the US, Mazzei worked as business translator and interpreter for more than 20 years in his native Brazil, holding positions as staff, freelance, and business owner. He has vast experience teaching and training translators and interpreters in the US, both in workshop and university settings. He is a certified court interpreter by the National Center for State Courts and a certified translator and interpreter for the state of São Paulo, Brazil, in Portuguese and English. Mazzei is co-author of The Routledge Guide to Teaching Translation and Interpreting Online (2022).
Edgar Moros
Dr. Moros earned a PhD in Translation Studies from SUNY-Binghamton’s Center for Translation Studies. He holds a Master's in Spanish (Translation Track) and a Bachelor's in Spanish Translation from Kent State University. He worked as Court Translation Specialist for the Massachusetts Trial Court from 2013 to 2018 and is now Executive Director of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity/Chief Diversity and Equity Officer at at Worcester State University. Previously he worked at Universidad de Los Andes in Mérida, Venezuela, where he taught Scientific, Technical, Medical, Legal, and Literary Translation and served as Head of University Translation Services. Also, he was the Coordinator of the MA in Teaching/Learning Foreign Languages. He has worked as a professional translator and interpreter since 1994. Dr. Moros is an active member of the American Translators Association.
Laurence Jay-Rayon Ibrahim Aibo
Laurence Jay-Rayon Ibrahim Aibo holds an M.A. in Translation and a Ph.D. in Translation Studies from Université de Montréal and runs her freelance translation and interpreting practice, Into French Translations. She has been translating, teaching, and interpreting in the Americas, Europe, and Africa for the past 30 years and teaching translation online since 2003. She currently teaches in the online Certificate in Professional Translation and Interpreting at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and is a translator trainer with Quebec-based translation school Magistrad. She is a healthcare interpreter certified by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters and a translator certified by OTTIAQ in Quebec. A reviewer for international translation studies journals, she is also the Director of the Colony in Crisis in Haitian Creole Translation Project funded by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities. Her first monograph, The Politics of Translating Sound Motifs in African Fiction, came out in March 2020 with John Benjamins Publishing. Laurence is the current administrator (2020—22) of the Educators Division of the American Translators Association, and co-author of The Routledge Guide to Teaching Translation and Interpreting Online (2022).
Caroline Ngono
Caroline Ngono holds a B.A. in English and French from Cameroon, a Maitrise in Teaching English as a second language from Tunisia, an M.A. in Professional Translation obtained from Cameroon, and a Ph.D. in Translation Studies obtained in Canada at the Laval University. She is member of the Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters of Cameroon (APTIC), the Canadian Association for Translation Studies (CATS), Women in Localization and an aspiring member of the Order of Certified Translators, Terminologists, and Interpreters of Québec (OTTIAQ). She is also a member of the Centre for Research & Development in Interpretation & Translation (CREDIT), a not-for-profit T&I networking, and capacity-building organisation incorporated in Canada since 2020. She currently serves as a member of the editorial board for the Pan-African Journal of Translation and Interpretation – Tafsiri, a publication of Scienceafrique.org. As a new graduate, she has published a few articles in line with language policy, translation and globalisation, translator training, CAT tools in translation and the history of translation in Cameroon. She has been practising as a freelance translator since 2013 and is currently working as a translator for the International Currency Exchange (ICE) in Canada.
Yasmin Alkashef
Yasmin Alkashef is an ATA-certified Arabic translator, a court certified interpreter and a certified healthcare interpreter originally from Cairo, Egypt. She has worked as a conference interpreter for 15+ years and as a court interpreter for 5+ years. She holds an MA in translation studies and a PhD in interpreting studies both from Ain Shams University, Egypt where she also taught translation and interpreting. Her interests include translation, localization, interpreting, and interpreter training. Yasmin is the current assistant administrator of the American Translators Association Arabic Language Division (2021-2023) and volunteers in various capacities in other ATA committees.
Hilda Tejada
Hilda Tejada is a Conference Interpreter and translator since 1989 with broad experience in the financial, economic, political, legal, environmental and human rights fields. She is a member of the Colegio Mexicano de Intérpretes de Conferencias since 1994 (President 2012-2016, Co-President 2021-2022) and a member of AIIC since 2016, where she actively participates in the Sign Language Network and the Training and Professional Development Group. Hilda is a Master of Advanced Studies in Interpreter Training by the University of Geneva and has been a university professor, a trainer and course and curriculum designer since 2000 in Mexico and abroad for both spoken and sign language interpreter training programs.
Gabriela Siebach
Gabriela Siebach has accumulated more than 15 years of professional experience as an interpreter, translator, trainer, coach, and mentor. She has spearheaded the development of multiple training and assessment programs throughout her career. Gabriela holds a graduate degree in Spanish translation and interpretation from the world-renowned Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. A former Board member of the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (2019-2021), she currently leads various Council initiatives as Chair of the Policy, Education & Research Committee. Gabriela also co-chairs the American Association of Interpreters and Translators (AAITE) Job Task Analysis Committee and is a member of the Carolina Association of Translators and Interpreters, the American Translators Association, and ASTM.
Stephen Sanford
Steve Sanford has been a court and conference interpreter since 1997, and is currently a Regional Coordinator of Interpreter Services for the Trial Court of Massachusetts. He is certified as a Portuguese court interpreter by the National Center for State Courts. He was an instructor in Boston University’s Interpreting Program from 2005 to 2021. The Interpreter's Gym, his Soundcloud page, provides free access to audio files for interpreters to practice with. Steve has also trained and mentored new court interpreters and participated in the translation of court forms and web text. He is a Senior member of the Translation Committee of the Trial Court's Office of Language Access. He was one of the Portuguese Language Division's Distinguished Speakers at the 2010 ATA Conference and has presented at several New England Translators Association conferences, as well as at the 2018 and 2019 AHEC Paving the Way Conferences. He is on the Board of Directors of the New England Translator's Association.
