Congratulations to LARP Professor Ethan Carr for his new book, BOSTON’S FRANKLIN PARK Olmsted, Recreation, and the Modern City, published October 1st!

A landscape historian and preservationist specializing in public landscapes, Professor Carr has authored several award-winning books, including Wilderness by Design (1998), Mission 66: Modernism and the National Park Dilemma (2007), and The Greatest Beach, a History of the Cape Cod National Seashore (2019), which describe the 20th century history of planning and design in the U.S. national park system.

In his latest book, Carr explores the history of Franklin Park, a landmark of American urban park design and beloved center for community gathering in Boston. He then describes new plans for the park's revitalization, such as The Franklin Park Action Plan, which won an ASLA 2023 Professional Award of Excellence. Carr served as a key member of the the Action Plan's interdisciplinary project team.
