Landscape Sustainability Science (LSS) aims to understand and improve the sustainability of regional landscapes. In a new study, Professor Emeritus of Landscape Architecture, Jack Ahernand a team of researchers explored the pressing needs and challenges of integrating landscape design and planning into LSS. They found that LSS's impacts will remain limited unless LSS research and landscape design and planning practices are fully integrated through a transdisciplinary approach.

The article, titled "Advancing landscape sustainability science: key challenges and strategies for integration with landscape design and planning," was published in the journal of Landscape Ecology, Volume 40, on January 17, 2025.
