Eva Bergloff, a sustainable community development major and a Sustainability Fellow with Facilities Management Sustainability (Sustainable UMass), was honored as a 2024-2025 Gerald F. Scanlon Student Employee of the Year. The award recognizes students for their outstanding contributions to the university.

This year, Bergloff worked with Sustainable UMass to launch the New2U store, UMass Amherst's first-ever, year-round thrift store, with a goal to reduce waste and foster a culture of sustainability and creativity on campus. As store manager, Bergloff designed the store, including its layout, operations manual, staff organization, and business plan. She has also made it her mission to amplify New2U as a resource for UMass students, not only by accepting and selling thousands of items at affordable prices, but also by creating student experiences through partnerships with artists, vendors, and clubs across campus.
