Paromita Shome is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning at UMass Amherst. Her research examines environmental planning in the context of climate change, sustainability, and community development. Her ongoing doctoral research investigates how gender-responsive climate adaptation is planned and implemented, and how policies can be better designed to serve community interests.

Some of her previous work has explored urban flooding-related loss and damage among affected residents, water and sanitation interventions in informal settlements, and sustainable planning for regions receiving climate migrants through an NSF-funded research project. She has teaching experience across undergraduate- and graduate-level courses at UMass Amherst, including independently teaching full-semester courses as well as serving as a teaching assistant. Her teaching experience includes City Planning, Planning for Climate Change, Climate Change and Resilient Cities, Dynamics of Human Habitation, and Landscape Architecture History.

Paromita holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Urban and Regional Planning from Bangladesh, where she also served as a faculty member. Her work brings together academic research, planning practice, and teaching experience across different environmental and community contexts.
