The Labor Center is located in Thompson Hall, in the center of the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus. Visitors should park in the Campus Center Parking Garage to visit Thompson Hall. There is a charge of $1.75 per hour to park in the garage.
Getting to UMass
The closest airport is Bradley International Airport (BDL) in the Hartford/Springfield area. It is approximately one hour from campus. There is no free transportation to the University, but arrangements can be made with Valley Transporter at 1 (800) 872-8752 or (413) 253-1350, or Seemo Shuttle at (413) 586-1120.
Peter Pan Bus Lines services the UMass Amherst campus, usually involving a bus change in Springfield.
UMass Transit provides an excellent fare-free bus system connecting the Five Colleges and surrounding areas.
Driving Directions
From Bradley Airport in Connecticut
Take I-91 North through Springfield and Holyoke. Get off at Exit 19, Northampton/Amherst. At end of exit, go right toward Amherst, which is east on Route 9. Go over the bridge over the Connecticut River and continue on Route 9 about 5 or 6 miles. When the Howard Johnson is on your right, turn left onto Route 116 North. Take the first exit, which says University of Massachusetts. At end of exit, go right onto Massachusetts Avenue. Turn left at the second light onto Commonwealth Avenue. At the next light, turn right (in front of the Mullins Center), following the signs to the Campus Center Parking Garage. The garage entrance is near the top of the hill on the right. The southwest corner of level four is the most convenient place to park. Exiting at the southwest corner, you will be steps away from Machmer Hall, with Thompson Hall attached and to your right. Elevators in the Thompson lobby will take you to find the Labor Center Director in room 606 or the Assistant to the Director in room 708.
From the Mass Pike (I-90) coming from the East or West
