Clare Hammonds

Clare Hammonds joined the Labor Center in the Fall of 2013 as a Professor of Practice where she leads research and training to advance worker justice and collective bargaining rights. 

Hammonds’ is trained in both qualitative and quantitive research methods and is an expert on workplace and labor issues. Her work has been published in journals including Social Problems and the Labor Studies Journal. It has won awards including “Best Paper” from the United Association of Labor Educators. Hammonds’ work has also appeared in the Boston Globe.  She regularly interviews with local and national media outlets. Hammonds is also a co-editor of the book Labor in the Time of Trump (Cornell University Press 2020).

Prior to coming to the Labor Center Hammonds has worked as a researcher and labor educator for the Massachusetts Early Childhood Educators Union (MECEU). She also conducted research for a variety of other labor organizations including the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) and the Massachusetts Nurses Association (MNA).

Hammonds teaches classes on gender, work and and organizing in the US.
