SMART Recess Study

We are currently looking for UMass students to help with our SMART Recess pilot study (a study that is examining the effects of a recess-based fitness program on academic performance and cognition in local elementary school students). This study is currently running and will continue through the end of May. These positions are unpaid at the moment, but it is possible to earn internship credit.

There are two positions that we are currently accepting applications for:

1. Research Assistant - This individual would assist with study implementation (i.e., assisting the intervention leader during recess sessions) and assist with data collection. This is ideal for students looking for some research experience.

2. Intervention Leader - This individual will lead short fitness sessions during recess to 3rd and 4th grade students at a local elementary school.

Criteria for both positions:

-Experience with children
-Reliable transportation to two research schools (in Amherst)
-Available at least 2 to 3 days between 11:30 am and 2:30 pm
-Availble from now until the end May

Additional criteria for the Intervention Leader position:

-Experience with basic aerobic and muscular fitness movements
-Ability to instruct exercise to a group of children (enthusiastically and confidently)
