About

When it comes to writing, you have the spark. You want to share your poetry and prose with others as passionate about writing as you are, who can help you take it to the next level. Juniper looks for writers whose work shows curiosity and risk-taking, and who are eager to experiment with forms and ideas new to them, in the company of their creative peers.

At Juniper, we’re all writers. You’re a writer, of course, and so are all of the Juniper teachers and staff. You’ll hear their work and share your own, experiencing writing community from morning Writing Labs to the evening readings. For fourteen years, The Juniper Institute for Young Writers has provided an immersion in the writer’s life, a pre-college experience on the UMass campus, and an unforgettable week.

This summer, due to COVID-19, our in-person Institute has been cancelled.
And we're thrilled to still be able to offer our usual programming, redesigned as a week of synchronous, dynamic and participatory online learning, sharing, and community building:

The Juniper Young Writers Online (JYWO) program, July 20-24, 2020.

Special perks offered for JYWO 2020:

  • Several levels of engagement and interaction; from 1-4 hours of instruction each day
  • 8th & 12th grade students also eligible to participate
  • New programming: write-alongs and writing challenges

We wish everyone good health and wellness through this global pandemic.

Any deposits or tuition already paid for the in-person 2020 Institute can be rolled over to the Juniper Young Writers Online program, or refunded in full.
