About

When it comes to writing, you have the spark. You want to share your poetry and prose with others as passionate about writing as you are, who can help you take it to the next level. Juniper looks for writers whose work shows curiosity and risk-taking, and who are eager to experiment with forms and ideas new to them, in the company of their creative peers.

At Juniper, we’re all writers. You’re a writer, of course, and so are all of the Juniper teachers and staff. You’ll hear their work and share your own, engaging with your writing community from the morning Craft Sessions, to the afternoon Writing Labs and into the early-evening readings and Writer's Life talks. For sixteen years, The Juniper Institute for Young Writers has provided an immersion in the writer’s life, a pre-college experience on the UMass campus, and an unforgettable week.

Due to COVID-19 and our ongoing commitment to community health and safety, we will continue to offer our usual programming in a virtual format. We've redesigned our online curriculum as synchronous, dynamic, and participatory online learning, sharing, and community building. New programming created for the online format includes Write-alongs, write-ins and writing challenges.

Upcoming Programming:

The Juniper Young Writers Online (JYWO) one and two-week programs & writing packages: July 12-23, 2021 (Applications for the one and two-week programs are open February 15-May 17, 2021). Registration for Writing Packages opens on May 17.
