The Juniper Institute for Young Writers could not thrive without support from its community near and far. The contributions of our sponsors and donors have made it possible for many talented writers to participate in the Institute over the last 20-years. We want to offer sincere thanks to the donors, colleagues, friends, and members of the English Department at UMass Amherst who have supported the Juniper Institute over the years. Whether you’ve attended one of our summer reading series events, sat in on a panel discussion with our esteemed guests, written a letter of recommendation for an undergraduate or graduate student who has applied to work or teach with Juniper, or nominated a teen writer to attend, you have helped make the Institute possible. As we approach the 20th anniversary of the Juniper Institute for Young Writers and the 22nd year of our Juniper Summer Writing Institute for adults, we’re grateful to be a part of the literary community in the English Department at UMass Amherst. We recognize your demonstrated commitment to supporting literature and those who wish to study it. We are deeply appreciative.
As arts organizations and publicly-funded arts programming are facing cuts, institutions of higher education are losing federal funding, books are being banned, and free speech is being threatened daily, we’re steadfast in our mission to prioritize affordable and inspiring programming for writers of all ages who value what prose, poetry, word, image, fiction, essay, memoir and autobiography can do.
There are several ways for you to offer support for our programming:
- Make a secure online donation to our program. To ensure your donation reaches the Juniper Institute, double-check that the drop-down menu under Fund Designation says "Juniper Initiative."
- Word-of-mouth continues to be our greatest recruitment tool. We now have Juniper Tee-Shirts available for purchase online. Help us spread the word in style!
- Teachers, college counselors, principals, librarians, or other adult leaders and mentors can nominate students to apply for our summer programs.
We also welcome new sponsorship inquiries to support our Young Writer and adult programs. Please contact Betsy Wheeler, Director, at (413) 545-8988 to discuss your support.
Thank you!
