Study abroad is a wonderful opportunity to enrich your familiarity with Jewish cultures, languages, and societies. Many Judaic studies majors choose to spend one or two semesters abroad. Students have enrolled in programs in Israel, England, and the Czech Republic, among other countries. Your advisor and other faculty in Judaic studies can advise you and also help with planning for study abroad. The department will review your program of study to ensure that it meets departmental and university requirements.
The International Programs Office (IPO) maintains up-to-date files and records regarding study abroad. As soon as you begin thinking about studying abroad, you should visit the office and take advantage of its staff and resources. Obtaining credit for your work abroad is a two-step process. First, you must arrange with the IPO to convert your credits from your program abroad to UMass course credits. Once this is done, you will need to consult with the Department to satisfy the requirements for the major.
