Rahmah Pauzi, class of 2013, is a long form video/multimedia journalist from Malaysia who recently appeared in the UMass New Asia Cinema Festival to talk about her doc "Welcome to Malaysia," which was picked up for distribution by Alexander Street (a ProQuest company).

Her other short documentaries include "New Age Democracy," "Life After Lockdown" and "The Tribe Women of Kelantan."

"The way people engage with journalism, understand it or appreciate it has changed so much – and it will keep changing. So journalists always need to be ready to engage and listen to the people they're serving and to understand how a story is packaged, consumed, discussed, challenged and repackaged."

Rahmah's advice?

"Understand that journalism is a public service, and be confident in your voice and what you're trying to fight for. Listen harder. Learn harder. Teach each other. Push yourself to understand diverse and unfamiliar experiences. Encourage humility. Be resilient, and believe in the conversations you're trying to advance."
