Michelle Liu, class of 2014, produces the 10 p.m. newscast on WTNH in New Haven, CT. She puts each day’s show together, deciding which stories are important enough to air, then placing them in the order she thinks will highlight the most significant, flow well and engage viewers. She writes every story the anchors read.

WTNH, Channel 8, is an ABC affiliate serving the Hartford/New Haven market.

When she was still a UMass student, Michelle worked as a part-time producer at WWLP, Channel 22, in Springfield, and the station hired her full-time after her graduation.

"Producing the news is not something I take lightly. It's an honor to be able to inform tens of thousands of people each night. But there's a big responsibility that comes with it: trust! I've earned the viewers' trust, and they rely on me to get it right with no hyperbole, no hype, no sensationalism. I keep that in mind when I craft broadcast each day."
