Henry Brechter, class of 2019, is managing editor at AllSides, a website that attempts to expose readers to "information and ideas from all sides of the political spectrum so they can better understand the world — and each other." The site focuses on "balanced news coverage, media bias ratings and civil dialogue opportunities" in an effort to strengthen democracy.
Henry spends most of his time on editorial oversight, growth analysis and content strategies. But he also finds time to write, as evidenced by this USA Today op-ed, "What Bruce Springsteen's Super Bowl ad gets right about reuniting Americans in the middle," and this Poynter piece reported with two other journalists: "The system is failing Mexican journalists. Here's how they're fighting back." He also designed these News Curation Principles, modeled on SPJ's Code of Ethics, to guide AllSides' work.
"Journalism may be one of the most underrated public services in civil society, but it can also be the most rewarding. There's no better feeling than knowing that my work has left my audience more informed, more engaged and better equipped to be productive members of their communities."
