Admission to the Major

Students may apply to the Journalism major when enrolling at UMass. Students who were not admitted to the major as incoming first-year or transfer students should meet with a Journalism advisor to seek admission into the major.

We offer three tracks in the journalism major: general journalism, public relations and sports journalism. We also offer several classes that make use of our state-of-the-art broadcast studio. Your advisors are here to guide you every step of the way and we encourage you to meet with them at least once a semester.

Any journalism courses that you have already completed or that you are currently enrolled in at the time of admission will be applied to the major requirements.
