Rodrigo Zamith

Rodrigo Zamith is a media scholar whose research and teaching interests lie at the intersection of journalism and technology, with a focus on understanding the social implications of emerging technologies for how news is produced, distributed, and consumed―as well as the broader consequences of those shifts to public life.

Zamith's research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals and has been recognized through multiple awards from major academic societies, including the International Communication Association (ICA) and The Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC). He is a Faculty Associate of UMass' Computational Social Science Institute and the University of Wisconsin's Public Tech Media Lab, as well as a Faculty Affiliate of UMass' Department of Communication.

His teaching includes both conceptually-oriented and skills-oriented courses, including Data-Driven Storytelling, Introduction to Journalism, and International Journalism. Zamith has published open-access textbooks that anyone is free to use for non-commercial purposes. He has also received UMass' College Outstanding Teaching Award, been a finalist for its Distinguished Teaching Award, and has been selected for multiple competitive teaching fellowships.

Zamith holds a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the University of Minnesota, an M.S. in Mass Communication from Florida International University, and a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Minnesota. He is also an avid soccer fan, aspiring tennis player, serviceable Overwatch tank, and open-source nerd.
