Mary E. Carey

Mary Carey has been an adjunct instructor of journalism at UMass since 2002. A Pittsfield native, she graduated with a BA in English from the University of Vermont in 1979 and a PhD in English from the University of Texas at Austin in 1993. She was a reporter for the Daily Hampshire Gazette for 15 years and was the communications director for the Office of Northwestern District Attorney David E. Sullivan for 10 years. She has been a freelance writer on politics, government and food; is certified in teaching English as a Foreign Language and has experience working on local political campaigns.
