Connect to eduroam with iPhone, iPod Touch & iPad

Use the instructions below to connect your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad to UMass Amherst's encrypted wireless network, eduroam, using our setup wizard, XpressConnect. You can also use these instructions to recreate your connection if it is deleted or if you change your IT Account password.

  • These instructions are based on iOS 8. Depending on your device and the version of your device's operating system, actual steps may vary.
  • You can run XpressConnect anywhere. UMass Amherst IT recommends running XpressConnect before arriving on campus.
  • You will be prompted for your IT Account NetID and password, and your device's password several times during the installation process. Please read the prompts carefully to ensure you are entering the correct information.
  1. For best results, we recommend disabling your cellular data before doing the installation (go to Settings > Cellular, and change Cellular Data to Off). You can re-enable it after you are done. Also, make sure your wireless card is turned on (go to Settings > Wi-Fi, the Wi-Fi option must be green/on).
  2. If you are on campus and haven't connected before, select the guest SSID (UMASS) from your list of available wireless networks (Settings > Wi-Fi > UMASS).
  3. Open Safari and go to Note: Safari is the only browser you can use.
  4. When prompted, enter your NetID and Password. The Connect to eduroam with XpressConnect screen will open.
  5. On the Connect to eduroam with XpressConnect screen, click Run XpressConnect (maroon button). The Welcome To The UMass Amherst Wireless Network screen will open.
  6. At the bottom of the screen, accept the Terms of the End-User License Agreement, then click Start.
  7. When prompted, enter your NetID. Note: When you enter your NetID, "" will be added automatically after it in the username field. This is necessary to set up the eduroam profile. Click Continue. The Install Profile screen will open.
  8. On the Install Profile screen, click Install. You may be prompted to ender your device Passcode.
  9. When prompted, enter your NetID password and click Next. Then click Done.
  10. Next, go to Settings > Wi-Fi > eduroam. If prompted, enter your NetID password. When you see a blue check mark next to eduroam, you are now successfully connected.
