If you choose to publish your syllabi online, the best strategy is to add the file to Box and share the file with the public. Once you have uploaded your syllabus file to Box, you can share it to anyone with the link, or embed the file onto a website. This method preserves the privacy of any other files that you may have stored in Box, as visitors to a public syllabus link will not be able to access any other file in your Box account.
Upload Your Syllabus to Box
- Log in to Box using your NetID and password.
- Click the maroon Upload button, and select Files. Alternatively, choose "Folder" if you would like to upload a folder containing multiple files.
- Locate your syllabus file, and click Open.
Your file is uploaded, and appears on your Box homepage.
Share Your Syllabus File
- Click the Share button on the right-hand side of your file.
- The "Shared Link" box appears with an auto-generated URL for your file.
-
Click the Access Type drop-down menu, and change the permission to "People with the link".
- This will share your file to anyone who clicks on the URL, and does not prompt them to log into Box with their NetID and Password.
-
Click the gear icon to view Advanced Settings.
- You are able to customize the URL to make it more friendly for students' use.
- You are also able to set a link expiration date from this menu.
- Click Save to save your settings.
- Copy the URL in the "Shared Link" box to send to students in an email, or post online.
Embed Your Syllabus File
- On the right-hand side of your file, expand the options menu, which looks like a box containing three dots.
- Select Sharing, and then click Embed Widget.
- On the Embed Widget Settings menu, select the Size, View, Width, Height, Sort, and Theme for the file.
-
Copy the Embed Code.
- Alternatively, click "Preview Embed Code" to view what the file will look like when displayed on a website.
- Paste the embed code into the website code.
